Ozempic® - NOVO NORDIC

Ozempic® diabetes medication from Novo Nordisk

Ozempic® by Novo Nordisk is designed for individuals with diabetes (type 2), and it also serves as an effective weight loss medication.

Approval for Ozempic® is granted to those with a BMI exceeding 30 or a BMI of 27 and at least one weight-related comorbidity.

How fast does Ozempic® work?

It is important that the weight loss is stable and does not happen too quickly. A good weight loss goal is 1 kilo per week. Our desire is to help you achieve and maintain healthy weight loss and an improved lifestyle. According to a recognized study, you can achieve a 3 times greater weight loss by combining weight loss medication, guidance and a healthy lifestyle compared to if you were only guided about a healthy lifestyle.

Is it necessary to change lifestyle?

Weight loss medications such as Ozempic® are intended as a supplement to weight loss. At SLIM for LIFE, we see medicine as a starting point and support for a healthier lifestyle.

To achieve a stable and optimal weight loss course, it requires more than weight loss medication alone. A lifestyle change with a low-calorie diet, good eating habits and exercise is therefore an optimal prerequisite for achieving and maintaining healthy and effective weight loss.

Who can get Ozempic®?

To be approved for Ozempic®, you must have a BMI of at least 30 or a BMI of 27 with at least one weight-related illness, e.g.:

High blood pressure or cholesterol – cardiovascular diseases – sleep apnea – prediabetes, PCOS – weight-related cancer (breast cancer, oesophagus, colon and rectal cancer, uterus, etc.) – weight-related joint pain conditions – large waist size, i.e. men over 102 cm and women over 88 cm.

If you have diabetes, are pregnant, breast-feeding or intend to become pregnant in the near future, you must not take weight loss medication with Semaglutide.

If there are other relevant health conditions, it may have an impact on whether you should be treated with Ozempic®. This is based on a medical assessment by the doctor responsible for the treatment.

We do not prescribe Ozempic®, as the medication is only intended for diabetic patients.

At SLIM for LIFE, we are ready to help answer your questions. You are always welcome to contact us if you have any questions about the treatment or our services.

What is Ozempic®?

Ozempic® is a pharmaceutical product by Novo Nordisk initially formulated for addressing type 2 diabetes. Subsequently, it has demonstrated effectiveness in treating obesity. Ozempic® has been officially registered in the EU and North America since 2017.

Ozempic® incorporates the active compound Semaglutide, which emulates the body’s natural appetite-regulating intestinal hormone, glucagon (GLP-1). Upon eating, the inhibition of glucagon release occurs, simultaneously stimulating insulin release in the pancreas. This hormone enhances the sensation of satiety, slows down food release in the intestines, and reduces blood sugar levels.

How does Ozempic® work?

The medication functions by managing blood sugar levels and reducing appetite. Ozempic® is administered through a weekly injection and requires a prescription. When coupled with a healthy diet and exercise, the medication can facilitate sustainable weight loss.

Additionally, Ozempic® diminishes cravings for sweet and fatty foods, leading to a lower calorie intake and subsequent weight loss. It serves as a supplement in the weight loss journey, complementing a lifestyle shift characterized by healthy eating habits and regular exercise. The medicine is injected once a week using a thin disposable needle, targeting the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.

What is the difference between Ozempic® and Wegovy®?

Ozempic® primarily serves as a treatment for diabetes but is also employed as a weight loss medication. In contrast, Wegovy® is specifically designed for the treatment of severe obesity. Both medications, produced by Novo Nordisk, incorporate the active molecule Semaglutide.

Ozempic® features a lower Semaglutide content, reflected in its recommended weekly doses of 0.25 mg, 0.50 mg, and 1.00 mg. On the other hand, Wegovy® offers a broader range of doses, including 0.25 mg, 0.50 mg, 1.00 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg. Despite these distinctions, both medications share similarities and are administered weekly through a prescription injection.

Is Ozempic® safe for non-diabetics?

Certainly. Originally developed as a medication for diabetes, specifically for diabetic patients, Ozempic® demonstrates a stabilizing effect on blood sugar levels. As an additional benefit, the medication exerts an appetite-suppressing effect, making it advantageous for individuals struggling with obesity and seeking medical assistance for weight loss. Shedding excess weight can mitigate the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and weight-related comorbidities, particularly if you fall within the overweight risk zone.
